Galina Vishnevskaya IV International Opera Singers Competition

The Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition is established in honor of the jubilee of the world-known singer - People’s Artist of the USSR, the owner of numerous international awards and prizes. Galina Vishnevskaya’s whole life has been dedicated to the stage: for many years she was brilliant in the most famous theatres all over the world, she performed the leading parts in numerous premieres, the greatest composers of the 20th century created music specially for her - the outstanding artist with the unique gift of singing.

The richest creative experience, the unique knowledge of the human voice nature and the artistic mastery induce Galina Vishnevskaya to lead an active teaching and enlightening life. In 2002 with the support of Moscow Government, the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre was opened.

According to Galina Vishnevskaya, there has long existed a necessity to establish a special international competition in Moscow that would give a young singer a chance to declare himself/herself at the world stage. Such should become the Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition, which aims to discover and support young aspiring singers all over the world.

The constitutors of the Competition are the Russian Federation Ministry of Culture, the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow  and Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre. The organizing committee of the Competition has made a decision that the Competition is to take place in Moscow every second year.

The first Competition took place in October 2006 in Moscow and aroused a considerable international response. The Competition is held in four rounds: elimination audition using the video records; 1st and 2nd rounds, accompanied by piano, are for the contestants to perform three and two opera arias correspondingly (one should be Russian); 3rd round is for the contestants to perform two opera arias(one should be Russian), accompanied by the symphony orchestra. 

The international competition jury is represented by the world opera stars, directors of the world opera stages and artistic agencies. More than 500 young vocalists from Russia and foreign countries all over the world have participated in the three last competitions. The winners are engaged in the Russian and foreign opera Theatres.

The Galina Vishnevskaya IV International Opera Singers Competition will take place in Moscow in year 2012.  The elimination audition based on video recordings will take place at Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre on January 15th and last till April 15th. The 1st and the 2nd rounds will take place at Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre on May 17 and last till May 20. The 3rd round, the solemn prize-winners awarding ceremony and Competition closing will take place on May 22 at Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.

 

APPLICATION

Women aged 21 to 32 inclusive and Men aged 22 to 35 inclusive are eligible to take part in the opera Competition.
No exceptions to this rule are applicable.

The application should be submitted not later than April 10, 2012 to Ostozhenka 25-1, Moscow, Russia, 119034 with the 'Galina Vishnevskaya Competition' note.

The following documents should be attached:
- passport copy
- musical education diploma copy
- 2 photos (anu format)
- artistic CV
- professional awards and certificates copies
- application letter in Russian and in English

The participants, who have been selected by the Jury to take part in rounds, shall arrive to Moscow on invitation, which is sent not later than 30 days prior to the competition start.
The netrance fee in amount of 1500 roubles is paid on arrival, when the contestants are being registered.
The documents and the fee are not reimbursed in case the contestant refuses to take part in any of the competition stages,  

 

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

The Competition directorate provides the first tour contestants with the following:
- hotel accommodation
- meals in accordance with the rules stated by the Russian Federation law.
The participants who have not managed to pass the first round and their tutors may stay in Moscow at their own expense or at the expense of the sending institution.

 

COMPETITION PROCEDURE

All competition performances are public.
The performance order is defined by the draw and is kept till the end of the Competition.
The elimination audition is based on the three opera arias (scenes) video-recordings lasting for 20-25 minutes.
The competition consists of three rounds.
The number of participants admitted to the first round should not exceed 50.
The first and the second rounds are held at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre.
The first round, accompanied by piano, is for the contestants to perform three opera arias (one should be Russian).
The second round, accompanied by piano, is for the contestants to perform two opera arias (one should be Russian).
The first third, accompanied by symphony orchestra, is for the contestants to perform two opera arias or scenes (one should be Russian).
All pieces are performed in the original language and key.
All the participants are obliged to provide the scores for their program. 

 

PRIZES and AWARDS

The organising committee announces the following prizes and awards:
First Prize - 450 000 roubles and a laureate title
Second Prize - 210 000 roubles and a laureate title
Third Prize - 150 000 roubles and a laureate title
Woman's and men's voices are awarded separately.

 

THE COMPETITION SPECIAL PRIZES

Participation in Galina VIshnevskaya Opera Centre repertoire performance.
One year of training at the Galina VIshnevskaya Opera Centre free of charge.
Practicing and tuning a part from Russian or Western European opera at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre.
Prize for the best Russian aria performance.
Artistic skill prize.
Audience choice prize.
The Jury decisions are final and are not a subject for re-consideration.
State, public institutions and individuals may establish additional special prizes by agreement with the Organizing Committee, which would be awarded in accordance with their respective wishes.
